Penguins (Year 2)
Newsletter November 2013
We have an exciting term to look forward to. Next week we have the Blunderbus Theatre production and workshop based on the book How to Catch a Star. Also next week, we have a school Book Fair. Every class benefits from this as we can choose free books according to sales .Keep reading the school newsletter for the dates of all our Christmas activities.
Please continue to read with your child. The children should read to an adult at home at least five times a week. The children are given opportunities to change their school reading book at least twice a week. Please remind them to change the books when asked, as Year 2 is a very busy class and we do not always have time to check every reading record book daily, and so rely on the pupils to tell us if they need a new book. The children are also allowed to borrow a more difficult book for an adult to read to them for pleasure. This also challenges their comprehension and extends their vocabulary.
Keep practising the 5 and 10 times tables and begin to learn the 2 times table. We will have regular tests in school. Also practise counting, reading and writing numbers to at least 100.
Infant Christmas Concert
We are planning to perform at 2.15 on the afternoons of 10th, 11th and 12th of December. As we now have many more children, seating will be by ticket only, with tickets restricted to two per family in the first instance. Details of any costumes or props required will be with you by the end of this week.
Is anyone able to come and listen to children read? We have some pupils who would benefit immensely from some extra practise. Please let me know if you would like to do this and which regular times you could be available. It would be much appreciated.
