St John's Church Of England Primary School

Growing towards the future through love, care and respect

REMINDER: Tomorrow, Friday 23rd June, we have a non uniform day in aid of the Grenfell Tower Appeal Fund. Please donate by way of a silver coin. Thank you.

Daily reading - We encourage the children to read one book every day.  This can then be recorded into their daily reading record and sent back into school.  The children are entered into a 'Give me 5' draw at the end of each term if they have read 5 books every week.  Children also have books given to them online via 'bug club'.  One is added each week.  Once children have been put onto the reading scheme they will come home with an additional leveled book.  There will be a different reading record book to record these books in.

Monster Maths - These challenges will be given out on a Thursday to be returned the following Monday.

Sounds and Tricky words - Children will receive tricky word and phoneme tubs with the phonemes and tricky words that they need to learn.  Phonemes and words will be added as the children become familiar with the words that they have already been given.
Handwriting books - At St Johns we use the cursive style handwriting which the children can find quite difficult to begin with. As the chidren learn the new sounds these will be written into a handwritng book so they can practise forming them at home.
